Discovery Sport L550 Retrofits & Upgrades Brisbane

More Queensland families start their Land Rover story in a Discovery Sport than in anything else the brand builds, and most of them are driving more capability than their spec sheet ever switched on. The 2015-on L550 spans two infotainment eras and one facelift, which means the same silhouette in the school pickup line can hide completely different cabins.

This page maps every upgrade the compact platform takes, from the $350 activations to CarPlay from $580, tells you what your build already carries, and states plainly what the L550 cannot take at any price, because a page that only says yes is an advertisement, not an answer. 2015-on Discovery Sport, five seat and 5+2, every trim.

At our Capalaba workshop, every job is performed by a factory-trained JLR master technician with genuine parts and factory coding, backed by our 12-month workmanship guarantee.

The Three Jobs Discovery Sport Owners Book Most

1. Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. The platform’s number one enquiry: CarPlay and Android Auto from $580 on InControl Touch Pro builds, genuine activation on your factory screen, done while you wait. 2020-on facelift builds usually carry it from the factory, so check before paying anyone, and 2015 to 2016 builds reach it through the screen upgrade below.

2. The cabin catch-up. For early builds, the PIVI Pro screen upgrade from $5,750 brings the current interface into the L550 that started the family’s Land Rover story, and ambient lighting at $350 finishes what the higher spec carried from new.

3. Parking and school-run vision. The 3D surround camera at $580 activation where hardware is fitted, retrofit quoted on VIN where it is not, and the ClearSight camera mirror from $3,450 on eligible facelift builds sees past three school bags and a dog.

Everything Your Discovery Sport L550 Can Take

The leanest menu in our platform range, and that is honesty, not a shortcoming: the compact platform takes what it takes, every row links to its full page, and every price is confirmed exact on your VIN check before anything is booked.

Already on Your Discovery Sport, So Nobody Sells It Twice

2020-on facelift builds usually carry CarPlay and Android Auto from the factory, so check the home screen before paying anyone, including us. Most Australian-delivered builds carry the 5+2 third row, so seat capacity is rarely the upgrade conversation people expect it to be. And higher trims carry surround camera hardware waiting on a $580 activation rather than the retrofit invoice someone else would write.

What the Compact Platform Cannot Take

Stated plainly, because nobody else in this industry will: there is no genuine console fridge path for the L550, the fridge stays in the big Discovery and the Range Rovers, and we will not sell you one. There is no $950 D350 path either, because that calibration belongs to the 3.0-litre six the Discovery Sport never carried. And anything on this platform we cannot do genuinely, we do not do at all. A workshop that quotes an L550 the same menu as a Range Rover has not read either vehicle, and the free VIN check exists so yours gets read properly.

Which Discovery Sport Years This Covers, and Which Door Is Yours

BuildYour door
L550 (2015 to 2016)Early InControl era: CarPlay arrives via the screen upgrade path, retrofit menu open
L550 (2017 to 2019)InControl Touch Pro era: the CarPlay activation sweet spot from $580, the VIN confirms the screen generation
L550 (2020 on, facelift)PIVI Pro and CarPlay usually factory, mild-hybrid Ingenium engines, and the 2021 to 2023 shortage window means some builds carry hardware with features deleted, so activations get checked first
Range Rover Evoque L551The sibling platform with its own menu; its dedicated page is on the way
Need seven full-time seats and 3,500kg?That is the full-size Discovery L462, and its page tells you honestly what the bigger platform takes

If you cannot place your build in the table, do not guess: the VIN answers it in two minutes through our diagnostics equipment, free, and one photo of your dash usually settles the screen era on the spot.

Upgrade It or Upsize It: The Honest Fork

Here is the conversation every growing family has in this vehicle, put in writing. When the L550 feels dated rather than small, upgrading wins by a street: CarPlay from $580, ambient lighting at $350 and the surround camera activation make a mid-years Discovery Sport feel current for well under a thousand dollars, and even the full screen upgrade lands at a fraction of a changeover.

When the problem genuinely is space, seven school-term seats every week or a van the L550’s tow rating cannot touch, the honest answer is the full-size Discovery L462, and we would rather point you at the right vehicle than sell upgrades to the wrong one. We sell the retrofits, so read our bias plainly, and then notice we just told you when not to buy them.

Sometimes the answer is $580. Sometimes it is the bigger Discovery. We say which.

Your Five-Point Checklist Before You Book

1. Model year first. On this platform it decides your CarPlay door more than any spec line.

2. Check the home screen before paying for CarPlay. Facelift builds usually have it from the factory, and we will tell you so for free.

3. One dash photo settles the screen era. If the VIN is not handy, the photo answers it on the spot.

4. Confirm your vehicle is unmodified. Factory baselines only, since every job here drives genuine capability through factory modules.

5. Bundle the catch-up. CarPlay, ambient lighting and Stop/Start in one visit is the classic Discovery Sport booking, and one VIN check prices the entire menu above.

Why Discovery Sport Owners Trust SemCar

First Land Rover or fifth, the vehicle gets read the same way. Every job is performed by a factory-trained Jaguar Land Rover master technician at our dedicated JLR workshop in Capalaba, with genuine parts, dealership-level coding equipment, and the platform knowledge that comes from working the L550 across both its generations. Australia’s Motor Vehicle Information Scheme gives specialist independent workshops access to manufacturer service information, and we use it on every Discovery Sport that comes through the door. The same access covers routine work, which is why owners book their Land Rover servicing in Brisbane with us as well.

The standing promise holds here as everywhere: whatever your build cannot support, already carries, or was never offered, you hear plainly at the free VIN check, and you pay nothing to find out.

Questions You Must Ask Before Booking

Can my Discovery Sport get CarPlay, and what will it cost for my year?

Every L550 has a path, and your model year decides which. 2017 to 2019: the sweet spot, a genuine $580 activation on the screen you already own, done while you wait. 2015 to 2016: your screen predates the activation architecture, so CarPlay arrives through the PIVI Pro screen upgrade from $5,750, which modernises the whole cabin with it. 2020 on: usually factory-fitted, so check your home screen before paying anyone, including us. The free VIN check places your build in two minutes.

Will any of this void my warranty?

Under Australian Consumer Law, a manufacturer cannot void your entire warranty simply because a third party has worked on your vehicle; what matters is whether the work caused a fault. Plenty of facelift Discovery Sports are still inside factory warranty, and it survives for unrelated faults, while every SemCar job carries its own 12-month workmanship guarantee with genuine parts and factory procedures throughout.

Can my Discovery Sport get the fridge or the D350 power upgrade?

No to both, and we would rather you hear it from us than pay someone to discover it. There is no genuine console fridge path for the L550, and the $950 D350 calibration belongs to the 3.0-litre six the Discovery Sport never carried. What the compact platform genuinely takes is on the menu above, and anything we cannot do genuinely, we do not do at all.

Can it get Tow Assist, and what can it actually tow?

Advanced Tow Assist at $450 is available on eligible facelift builds whose hardware supports it, VIN-confirmed before you pay. And the honest capacity line: the L550 tows up to 2,500 kilos braked depending on your build, that number is factory-set, and nothing we fit or code changes it. What changes is control, reversing the camper trailer becomes turning a dial.

Is the screen upgrade really worth it on a 2016 build?

The honest answer is a question back: how long are you keeping it? If the Discovery Sport is staying in the family, the PIVI Pro upgrade from $5,750 changes how the vehicle feels every single day. If you are upsizing within the year, spend $350 on the small activations or nothing at all, and keep the change for the next vehicle. We will tell you which side of that line your plans put you on.

Can a dealer tell work has been done?

Yes. A dealer with the right equipment can see your configuration differs from your VIN’s delivery specification. What they find is genuine capability enabled to factory behaviour with genuine parts. We say this on every page because you deserve the whole picture.

Will a software update undo activations?

Hardware stays fitted regardless. Occasionally a major update returns coding to delivery configuration, and when that happens we re-apply it. Rare, known, disclosed now rather than later.

How long does the work take?

The CarPlay activation is done while you wait. The classic bundle of CarPlay, ambient lighting and Stop/Start fits a single visit, the screen upgrade and larger retrofits run within a day with parts lead times quoted up front, a courtesy car is available by advance reservation, subject to availability, and typical booking lead time is within two weeks.
