Land Rover Discovery L462 Retrofits & Upgrades Brisbane
No Land Rover works harder for its family than the Discovery. Seven seats on a school morning, 3,500 kilos on a Saturday slipway, and somewhere between the two, a spec sheet that decided how much help you got with either. The 2017-on L462 spans two infotainment eras, one facelift and the chip-shortage years, which means two identical-looking Discoverys can differ by a dozen working features.
This page maps every job the platform takes, from the $350 activations to the $450 Tow Assist that turns trailer reversing into turning a dial, priced honestly by generation. 2017-on Discovery, five and seven seat, every trim, all of it confirmed free on a VIN check.
At our Capalaba workshop, every job is performed by a factory-trained JLR master technician with genuine parts and factory coding, backed by our 12-month workmanship guarantee.
The Three Jobs Discovery Owners Book Most
1. Advanced Tow Assist. The Discovery job: Advanced Tow Assist at $450 turns reversing a trailer, van or boat into turning a dial while the vehicle steers, on builds whose hardware supports it, VIN-confirmed before you pay a cent. If you tow anything, this is the single best value line on this page.
2. Apple CarPlay & Android Auto. CarPlay and Android Auto from $580 on InControl Touch Pro builds, genuine activation on your factory screen, done while you wait. 2021-on facelift builds usually carry it from the factory, so check before paying anyone, and the generation map below sorts every year.
3. Parking and vision. A Discovery is a big vehicle full of small passengers: the 3D surround camera at $580 activation where hardware is fitted, retrofit on VIN where it is not, and the ClearSight camera mirror from $3,450 on eligible facelift builds sees past a boot loaded to the roof.

Reversing the boat, reduced to turning a dial. $450, VIN-confirmed first.
Everything Your Discovery L462 Can Take
The working platform gets the working menu. Every row links to its full page, and every price is confirmed exact on your VIN check before anything is booked.

Already on Your Discovery, So Nobody Sells It Twice
Many Discoverys already carry more tow hardware than their menus admit, including the electrically deploying tow bar and the trailer wiring the higher packs bundled. Seven-seat builds on higher trims carry intelligent seat fold from the boot and the app. And that is exactly why the VIN is read before anything is quoted here: half the towing package some workshops would sell you is already bolted to your vehicle.
The 2021 to 2023 Builds: Hardware Fitted, Features Deleted
The shortage-era builds are this platform’s special case. Vehicles left the factory with hardware on board and features switched off, which is why activations on those years routinely cost a tenth of the retrofit someone else would quote. And the walkout line for this page wears towing boots: a workshop that quotes Tow Assist without reading your VIN first is guessing with your boat, and the free VIN check exists so nobody has to guess with yours.
Which Discovery Years This Covers, and Which Door Is Yours
| Build | Your door |
|---|---|
| L462 (2017 to 2020) | InControl Touch Pro era: the CarPlay activation sweet spot from $580, Tow Assist VIN-confirmed, retrofit menu fully open, prime Matrix LED candidates |
| L462 (2021 on, facelift) | PIVI Pro and CarPlay usually factory, the D300 builds add the $950 D350 path, and the chip-shortage window 2021 to 2023 means hardware fitted with features deleted, so activations outnumber retrofits |
| Discovery Sport | A different platform with its own menu; its dedicated page is on the way |
| Discovery 3 & Discovery 4 | The honest generation answer lives on our CarPlay activation page, which answers those owners by name, and the diagnostics door covers them from 2005 |
If you cannot place your build in the table, do not guess: the VIN answers it in two minutes through our diagnostics equipment, free, and one photo of your dash usually settles the screen era on the spot.
Seven Seats Monday, 3,500 Kilos Saturday: The Towing Package
The double life, told honestly. The L462 tows 3,500 kilos braked, seats seven, and does both in the same weekend, and the towing package is where this page earns its keep: Tow Assist at $450 for the slipway, the 3D surround camera for hitching alone, Stop/Start deactivation for ramp starts with a tonne of boat behind, and the D350 calibration for the builds that haul uphill loaded.
And the honest boundary, stated plainly: none of this changes your towing capacity, which the factory set and we do not touch. It changes how much of that capacity you can use calmly, on your own, with the family watching from the jetty. One VIN check prices the whole package.

Capacity is factory-set. Calm is what we add.
Your Five-Point Checklist Before You Book
1. VIN first, always. Tow Assist is hardware-dependent, and the VIN answers it before anyone pays for anything.
2. Know your era. Touch Pro or PIVI decides your CarPlay door, and one photo of your dash settles it if the VIN is not handy.
3. Shortage-era owners: assume hidden hardware. On 2021 to 2023 builds especially, the feature you want may already be fitted and switched off.
4. Confirm your vehicle is unmodified. Factory baselines only, since every job here drives genuine capability through factory modules.
5. Bundle the tow package. Tow Assist, the surround camera and Stop/Start in one visit is the classic Discovery booking, and one VIN check prices the entire menu above.
Why Discovery Owners Trust SemCar
The vehicle that carries the most precious cargo in the range deserves the workshop that reads it properly. Every job is performed by a factory-trained Jaguar Land Rover master technician at our dedicated JLR workshop in Capalaba, with genuine parts, dealership-level coding equipment, and the platform knowledge that comes from working the L462 across both its generations. Australia’s Motor Vehicle Information Scheme gives specialist independent workshops access to manufacturer service information, and we use it on every Discovery that comes through the door. The same access covers routine work, which is why owners book their Land Rover service in Brisbane with us as well.
The standing promise holds here as everywhere: whatever your build cannot support, already carries, or was never offered, you hear plainly at the free VIN check, and you pay nothing to find out.

We read the VIN before you pay. Every time.
Questions You Must Ask Before Booking
Does my Discovery have Tow Assist, or can it get it?
The honest answer is on your build plate, not in anyone’s sales pitch. Advanced Tow Assist at $450 drives the factory steering hardware, so it depends on what your build carries, and many Discoverys already have more of the tow package fitted than their menus admit. The free VIN check reads it in two minutes: if your hardware supports it, the price is $450 flat, and if it does not, you hear that plainly and pay nothing.
Can my Discovery get CarPlay, and what will it cost for my year?
2017 to 2020 builds are the sweet spot: a genuine $580 activation on the screen you already own, done while you wait. 2021-on facelift builds usually carry CarPlay from the factory, so check your home screen before paying anyone, including us. And if your Discovery is a Discovery 3 or 4, the honest generation answer lives on our CarPlay activation page, which covers those chassis by name.
Will any of this void my warranty?
Under Australian Consumer Law, a manufacturer cannot void your entire warranty simply because a third party has worked on your vehicle; what matters is whether the work caused a fault. Facelift Discoverys still inside factory warranty keep it for unrelated faults, and every SemCar job carries its own 12-month workmanship guarantee with genuine parts and factory procedures throughout.
Does Tow Assist change how much I can tow?
No, and we would rather say that here than let you assume otherwise. Your towing capacity is set by the factory, up to 3,500 kilos braked depending on your build, and nothing we fit or code changes that number. What Tow Assist changes is control: reversing a trailer becomes turning a dial while the vehicle steers, which means you use the capacity you already own calmly and on your own. Capability comes from the factory; calm comes from the coding.
Can my TD6 or SD4 get more power?
The honest generation answer: the published $950 D300 to D350 path applies to the 2021-on Ingenium builds, and the earlier TD6, SD4 and Si6 engines are assessed individually against what factory calibrations exist for them, quoted on your VIN. What we never do, at any price, is fit an aftermarket tune, so if the factory answer for your engine is no, you hear that plainly and pay nothing for the truth.
Can a dealer tell work has been done?
Yes. A dealer with the right equipment can see your configuration differs from your VIN’s delivery specification. What they find is genuine capability enabled to factory behaviour with genuine parts. We say this on every page because you deserve the whole picture.
Will a software update undo activations?
Hardware stays fitted regardless. Occasionally a major update returns coding to delivery configuration, and when that happens we re-apply it. Rare, known, disclosed now rather than later.
How long does the work take?
The CarPlay and Tow Assist activations are done while you wait. The classic bundle of Tow Assist, the surround camera and Stop/Start fits a single visit, larger retrofits run within a day with parts lead times quoted up front, a courtesy car is available by advance reservation, subject to availability, and typical booking lead time is within two weeks.
