Range Rover Sport L494 Retrofits & Upgrades Brisbane

The most common Range Rover on Queensland roads, and the platform where the modern-features gap is widest: a 2015 Sport and a 2022 Sport wear the same silhouette and live in different decades inside. Eight model years, three infotainment generations, engines from SDV6 to Ingenium, and a menu that runs from a $350 activation to the full cabin transformation.

This page maps all of it by generation, so you know your door before you call anyone: which years get CarPlay switched on for $580, which reach it through the screen upgrade, which qualify for the $950 factory power path, and what your exact build carries either way. 2014 to 2022 L494, every trim to SVR, all of it confirmed free on a VIN check.

At our Capalaba workshop, every job is performed by a factory-trained JLR master technician with genuine parts and factory coding, backed by our 12-month workmanship guarantee.

The Three Jobs L494 Owners Book Most

1. Apple CarPlay & Android Auto activation. The single most-booked job on this platform: CarPlay and Android Auto from $580 on InControl Touch Pro equipped builds, genuine activation on your factory screen, done while you wait. Roughly 2016 to 2018 builds are the sweet spot, and the generation map below tells you exactly where yours sits.

2. The PIVI Pro screen upgrade. For earlier builds whose screens predate the activation path, the PIVI Pro 11.4-inch touchscreen upgrade from $5,750 is the cabin transformation: the current Sport’s interface in the Sport you already own, and CarPlay comes with it.

3. Driver assistance and vision. The retrofit era’s biggest gaps: Adaptive Cruise Control at $580 activation or retrofit priced on VIN, the ClearSight mirror from $3,450 on eligible builds, and the 3D surround camera at $580 activation or retrofit on VIN. The VIN check reads which your build carries hardware for.

Everything Your Range Rover Sport L494 Can Take

The longest menu in our platform catalogue, because almost none of it came standard across the L494’s run. Every row links to its full page, and every price is confirmed exact on your VIN check.

And the short honest list on this platform: late builds from 2019 shipped with CarPlay from the factory, so check your build before paying anyone, and facelift builds often carry more assistance hardware than their screens admit. Here the usual warning flips constructively: a workshop that quotes an L494 without asking your model year first has not understood this platform, because the generation decides everything, and that is exactly why the free VIN check comes before any number we give you.

Which Sport Years This Covers, and Which Door Is Yours

BuildYour door
L494 (2014 to 2015)InControl era: CarPlay arrives via the screen upgrade path, retrofit menu fully open
L494 (2016 to 2018)InControl Touch Pro: the CarPlay activation sweet spot from $580, retrofit menu fully open
L494 facelift (2018 to 2020)More assistance hardware fitted than the spec sheet admits: activations outnumber retrofits, CarPlay by activation or factory depending on build
L494 (2021 to 2022)Ingenium D300 builds add the $950 D350 path, CarPlay factory, chip-shortage deletions appear on the latest builds
Current Sport L461 (2022 on)A different menu entirely: see our dedicated Range Rover Sport L461 page

Earlier Sports are covered from 2005 through our diagnostics door. And if you cannot place your build in the table, do not guess: the VIN answers it in two minutes, free, and one photo of your dash usually settles the screen generation on the spot.

Range Rover Sport CarPlay: Which Years Have It, Which Need It

The platform’s biggest question, answered in three lines. 2019 onwards: your Sport very likely has CarPlay from the factory, so check your own build before paying anyone for it, including us. 2016 to 2018: the sweet spot, a genuine $580 activation on the screen you already own. 2014 to 2015: your screen predates the activation path, and CarPlay arrives through the PIVI Pro screen upgrade, which brings the whole cabin forward with it.

The honesty that goes with the map: the activation is genuine and runs on your factory screen, wireless capability depends on your hardware generation and we tell you which yours supports before you book, and the full generation detail for every Land Rover and Jaguar lives on our CarPlay activation page, not just the Sport’s chapter of it.

Your Five-Point Checklist Before You Book

1. Know your model year before anything. On this platform it decides your CarPlay door, your power path and half the menu.

2. Check your screen generation. The widescreen Touch Pro layout and the earlier screens look different at a glance; one photo of your dash settles it if the VIN is not handy.

3. Facelift owners: assume hidden hardware. 2018-on builds routinely carry assistance hardware their menus never mention, and activations cost a fraction of retrofits.

4. Confirm your vehicle is unmodified. Factory baselines only, since every job here drives genuine capability through factory modules.

5. Bundle the cabin visit. CarPlay, ambient lighting and Stop/Start in one sitting is the classic L494 booking, and one VIN check prices the entire menu above.

Why L494 Owners Trust SemCar

This is the Sport we see more weeks than not, and volume builds a particular kind of care: every job on this page is performed by a factory-trained Jaguar Land Rover master technician at our dedicated JLR workshop in Capalaba, with genuine parts, dealership-level coding equipment, and the generation knowledge that only comes from working across all eight model years of one platform. Australia’s Motor Vehicle Information Scheme gives specialist independent workshops access to manufacturer service information, and we use it on every L494 that comes through the door. The same access covers routine work, which is why owners book their Range Rover servicing in Brisbane with us as well.

The standing promise holds across every generation: whatever your build cannot support, or already carries, you hear plainly at the free VIN check, and you pay nothing to find out.

Questions You Must Ask Before Booking

Does my Range Rover Sport have CarPlay, or can it get it?

Almost certainly one or the other, and your model year decides which. 2019 onwards: very likely factory-fitted, check before paying anyone. 2016 to 2018: the $580 activation on your existing screen. 2014 to 2015: the PIVI Pro screen upgrade path, which modernises the whole cabin. If you are unsure where your build sits, the free VIN check answers it in two minutes.

Will any of this void my warranty?

Under Australian Consumer Law, a manufacturer cannot void your entire warranty simply because a third party has worked on your vehicle; what matters is whether the work caused a fault. Many L494s are past factory warranty anyway, which makes the guarantee that matters ours: 12 months on workmanship, on every job, with genuine parts and factory procedures throughout.

My 2015 has the old screen. Is the upgrade really the only CarPlay path?

For a genuine, factory-integrated result, yes, and we would rather tell you that plainly than sell you a workaround. The early screens predate the activation architecture. The honest upside: the PIVI Pro upgrade from $5,750 is not a CarPlay purchase with a screen attached, it is the current Sport’s entire interface in yours, and CarPlay is one line of what changes.

Is the CarPlay activation genuine, or a dongle?

Genuine, and the difference matters. The activation enables Apple CarPlay and Android Auto natively on your factory screen through factory coding: no box hidden behind the dash, no second interface, nothing hung off your cabin. It behaves exactly as it does on a factory-equipped build, because that is what it becomes.

Can my SDV6 or SDV8 get a power upgrade?

The honest generation answer: the published $950 D300 to D350 path applies to the MY21-onwards Ingenium builds, and the earlier SDV6 and SDV8 engines are assessed individually against what factory calibrations exist for them, quoted on your VIN. What we never do, at any price, is fit an aftermarket tune, so if the factory answer for your engine is no, you hear that plainly.

Can a dealer tell work has been done?

Yes. A dealer with the right equipment can see your configuration differs from your VIN’s delivery specification. What they find is genuine capability enabled to factory behaviour with genuine parts. We say this on every page because you deserve the whole picture.

Will a software update undo activations?

Hardware stays fitted regardless. Occasionally a major update returns coding to delivery configuration, and when that happens we re-apply it. Rare, known, disclosed now rather than later.

How long does the work take?

The CarPlay activation is done while you wait. The classic bundle of CarPlay, ambient lighting and Stop/Start fits a morning, the screen upgrade and larger retrofits run within a day with parts lead times quoted up front, a courtesy car is available by advance reservation, subject to availability, and typical booking lead time is within two weeks.
